Thank you for all that we have, how far we have all come and all that we have passed through which has moulded us to be who we are now. Father I pray that those reading this post will search within and look at their lifestyles to fix whatever may be acting as a distraction in their lives which moves them away from you. I pray that their relationship with you shall strengthen and whoever or whatever is taking their attention away from you will come to an end. Because you alone should take all the glory in our lives and our attention should be with you first and foremost.

‘Distraction’ a thing that prevents someone from concentrating on something else, distractions aren’t just things but can be people too. People who distract you to take you of your path to the right direction, people who don’t want to see you prosper and people who work hard on standing in your way, sitting on your progress. On the flip side to that, the people you place high above God and pay more attention to can also serve as a distraction leading into idolisation.

Distractions can take many forms:

Your job

Your friends

Your partner

Material things

You see you cannot talk about something if you yourself haven’t experienced it, and with that said God has shown me so many things to do with distractions in my life recently. It all started with my mentor speaking to me about them, she said God was speaking to her about me and that my recent job is one of the biggest distractions in my life, reason being with all the intense situations that were happening at work it was taking me away from Him. Where my focus should be on Him it was on my job and trying to figure things out, taking it home with me and letting certain people at work get to me. So all that time I should have been in His presence the thought of work consumed within and my spirit man was not being fed but rather what was being fed was my mind and focus on work during the 9-5 routine.

Now we have to be careful with this routine because it can take up so much of our time that we don’t even realise it going in and out on a daily basis doing the job, but neglecting our time and communication with God. God had to really make me understand through my mentor that my time was too much consumed in my job and that had to change. So do you know what God did? He cut down my hours from doing full time to part time in the same organisation, but before this I realised that much of my time was in the wrong places and so prayed for part time work so that I could juggle the ministry, working in my mentors ministry team, studies and family commitment all together. That way more of my time was doing God’s work as opposed to the job. He didn’t take me out to bless me with part time work elsewhere it was on my door step and that job that I was not happy with and the people too He took me away from that section and totally transformed my contract to part time with a new manager. Glory to God for this amazing testimony.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The way God works is just wonderful and truly amazing. In the natural sense some will say but Lisa that is less money but my response will be “the same God that cut down my hours is the same God who will provide” because for some time now, He made it evidently clear that He wants me to go into ministry full time soon when the time is right, so this is prepping me in a sense to come out slowly at a pace that I can embrace and learn from. Whilst still using the gifts that I will eventually transfer to ministry work full time. Those who look to money and material things stopping them from stepping out are those who are moving in the flesh and lack faith. Because if you say you have faith in God you shouldn’t be shaken by lack of material things and finances. He is a big big limitless God who can provide and elevate you, He says He will supply all our needs according to His riches Philippians 4:19

He has called many people out who didn’t have much and He has also called those out who only had 1p in their account but by faith and walking in the supernatural you let God lead you and focus on Him in all things.

The reason why I am being so transparent about my distraction in my recent job is because this is indeed one of the biggest distractions known to man and woman. You are there Monday to Friday some on weekends too so where is the time to say you are doing the work of God?? When you always get home late and you are tired from work. Always saying you will read the word but yet you are tired, you fall asleep and make promises to do it the next day yet it is the same old ROUTINE. Where is the time to work on yourself and your walk in Christ? There are things such as this you shouldn’t abandon simply because you have a job.

I have spoken to some of you about distractions and can see that it’s a routine we can all share a common ground on, for this work routine mind-set to make money to pay the bills and spend on you once in a while. Most times when I ask someone so how are you or how’s things? Sadly it’s the same response ‘oh nothing much, same old same old’ is this life? When will someone say life is so good today I did such and such and tomorrow this is going to happen and be enthusiastic about the days they are blessed to see? This country, working is life and if you aren’t working then you are nothing basically. But in God’s eyes you are special and you are a somebody and He does not like routine and you keeping Him in a box.

But look at it this way, God has put in you special gifts and a purpose to fulfil, for many including me that is not in my job. However God made me understand that even though I have been through a lot in this job this year and always ready to leave. I have special gifts I have been using there which He wants me to transfer into ministry which I am currently doing, how amazing? That job you despise so much sort of like the lion’s den feeling, is the same job God is telling you to be patient in, to trust in Him and equipping you, to then step out to do His work.. His ways are not our ways to even begin to understand why and how things happen the way it does.

Now I am not saying to go and resign and go into God’s work full time, no because until you hear from God you shouldn’t move. Premature movement is not your portion. But what I am saying using my case as an example is that you need to really work on your intimate relationship with God. So that you are positioned and ready to move when God says to move, but not to be so deep into your job life that you miss His voice and instruction because you feel you have to stay in that job, to provide, when God is saying look to Him first in all things not some things and the rest will follow Matthew 6:33

Let’s look at Philippians 4:8 – ‘Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, meditate on these things.’

What we can take away from here is that whatever we place high importance on, whatever we put in our minds is what will show in our words and actions. Here Paul is informing us/reminding us to tune our minds to be in line with God, of things that are pure, true, right, and praiseworthy. Do not allow negativity and the wrong people rob you off your positive mind-set. If you have problems with negativity then look at what you feed your inner being with and with who (friends, tv, magazines, the celebrities, films and whatever is doing more harm than good.) To replace all this read the word of God, pray and talk with Him more to ask Him to remove what serves as a distraction to you and more importantly to position yourself to receive the word and instruction from Him clearly.

Matthew 6:24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will be loyal to one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.’

The word says we cannot serve two masters, our God is a jealous God and doesn’t like when we put things and others before Him. The thing is we live in a materialistic world where money and material things will have people doing more to get it, but less to know more of God, many sadly serve money and feel that is what makes them happy so the minute they lose the money they lose the happiness. If only they can understand that your happiness is not in others and material things that lose value. When you are called to be with the Lord all those things you chased after will stay behind those things are temporary, know what is more important. ‘The love of money is indeed the root of all evil’ 1 timothy 6:10

Whatever occupies more of your time and thought is what you serve and if it isn’t of God then you need to self-check and change those areas in your life that do not serve Him.

Galatians 5:16 -17  “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

The point is that when we allow these things to get to us, we are led into sin. Sin and bad attitudes are not good examples of how God wants us to be. Although it may often be difficult, we must maintain our reasoning and not allow ourselves to be caught up in what is happening around us.

Matthew 6:22-23 tells us; “The lamp of the body is the eye if therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”

Spiritual vision is within our capacity to allow us see clearly what God would want us to do and see from a spiritual point of view as opposed to the natural view point. At times the spiritual eyes can easily be blocked by self (whether it be self-desires, our own interests, what people say etc.) Serving God in spirit and in truth is by far the best way to restore our sight, so that we have good eyes fixed on God as opposed to man and things.

I want to leave you with these thought provoking points and hope it enables you to think deeply about what your focus is actually on and how to work on changing it.

As we can all agree as God’s people, we have a responsibility to be good examples to those around us. If we lose sight of this responsibility even for a moment, we are in danger of having a spiritual accident.

  • Are you really focused on the Kingdom and God’s plan, or do you get easily side tracked and become angry just like those in the world around us? It’s human nature to retaliate when someone hurts us, but is that what we should do?
  • There is distraction and there is focus. We must focus on God, to keep ourselves from becoming distracted. But what does the Bible have to say about being focused? Are you applying it?
  • Are you studying the word and praying for His guidance?
  • Are you putting it into action by following His Word and, whenever possible, steering clear of the areas and ways that lead us to distraction. It’s not always easy, but we can have God’s help.

Psalms 86:11: “Teach me your way, O LORD; I will walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.”

Colossians 3:1-2: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

1 Timothy 4:16 “Take heed unto yourself and unto the doctrine, continue in them for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”

God bless you all

Remain in His presence always
